The whole trial appears to have been a sham. The brothers were framed and convicted on the basis of innuendo, not any facts.
This more or less reminds me of what happened to Oswald. Forensic evidence showed that he couldn't possibly have been the killer, but the FBI managed to convince everyone that he was.
