US Sinking, China Rising

Washington’s retreat is not so much by intent, Mr. Subramanian said, but a result of dysfunction and a lack of resources to project economic power the way it once did. Because of tight budgets and competing financial demands, the United States is less able to maintain its economic power, and because of political infighting, it has been unable to formally share it either.

Experts say that is giving rise to a more chaotic global shift, especially toward China, which even Obama administration officials worry is extending its economic influence in Asia and elsewhere without following the higher standards for environmental protection, worker rights and business transparency that have become the norms among Western institutions.

Although the US economic collapse will be detrimental to all its citizens, I don't see how the rise of China is a bad thing. Can you name any country China has attacked in your lifetime, any country whose government China has overthrown, or any country other than the US that actually hates China? I can't.

I'll admit that Chinese troops entered the Korean War, but that was after the US had attacked North Korea and were threatening to attack China.

By the way, it's not just economic power that's ebbing in the US. Our food producing regions are experiencing serious drought:

Near California’s Success Lake, more than 1,000 water wells have failed. Farmers are spending $750,000 to drill 1,800 feet down to keep fields from going fallow. Makeshift showers have sprouted near the church parking lot.

“The conditions are like a third-world country,” said Andrew Lockman, a manager at the Office of Emergency Services in Tulare County, in the heart of the state’s agricultural Central Valley about 175 miles (282 kilometers) north of Los Angeles.

Take away our money, our food, and our water and what's left? Nothing but a baby making machine which is producing children for whom there are no jobs.

We have a LOT of problems to fix, and I don't see any leaders stepping up to fix them. Do you?

Update: And while the US stands by and does nothing to help the Greek people (the inventors of democracy) and everything to help the Nazis in Ukraine, Putin comes to the rescue:

Not only is the US going to collapse, all our former allies are going to find themselves in a similar predicament.
