Did 9/11 Produce Radioactive Fallout ???

There are several reports on the Internet which claim that the damage to the World Trade Center buildings was caused by some sort of nuclear devices. You can read one such report here:

Such claims are bolstered by studies such as USGS Open-File Report 01-0429 and William Tahil's report "Ground Zero: The Nuclear Demolition of The World Trade Centre". You can download Mr. Tahil's report from Academia.edu [registration may be required], and you can read the USGS report here:

These three reports have the same glaring deficiency: nowhere do they demonstrate the presence of radioactivity at Ground Zero. The thing about "radioactive fallout" is that it has to be RADIOACTIVE to merit that description, and it does not appear anyone has proven the WTC dust was radioactive. Their claims are based instead on the presence of certain trace elements in the dust, which were detected by performing chemical tests.

But there is at least one alternative explanation for the presence of these trace elements (strontium, barium, thorium, etc.) in the debris from the WTC buildings. As we know, the WTC site was formerly occupied by what was called "Radio Row" and by a landfill:

And what was present in the hundreds of electronics stores and factories located in Radio Row, and possibly also in the landfill? Vacuum tubes and cathode ray tubes containing strontium, barium, thorium, etc. As we also know, material excavated from the former Radio Row site and landfill was used for construction purposes; e.g., part of it became the fill on which Battery Park City was constructed.

My theory is that the materials from Radio Row which contained strontium, barium, thorium, etc. (including contaminated soil from the excavations and from remediation of the landfill) were ground up and added to the construction materials of the WTC buildings. This was a known practice in the days prior to the enactment of environmental laws, especially in areas where organized crime had penetrated construction firms and unions. When the WTC buildings disintegrated, the former Radio Row metals-containing materials present in the buildings were dispersed along with the rest of the dust, leading to what was discovered in samples collected, analyzed, and summarized in the USGS report.

Does my theory sound far-fetched? It may, but at least it is based on demonstrable fact (the location and history of Radio Row) and not on fantasy (the alleged presence of nuclear reactors or bombs in the WTC buildings).

Is this a definitive answer to the question of radioactive fallout from 9/11? No, it isn't. I urge those who possess samples of WTC dust to have it analyzed for radioactivity (alpha, beta, gamma radiation). Anyone who claims this is unnecessary is guilty of what NIST has done, by selectively choosing which scientific and engineering tests to use and then refusing to perform other tests which might refute their theory.

If evidence of RADIOACTIVITY at Ground Zero is produced, I will reassess my theory. Until then, the answer to the title question is NO, 9/11 did not produce radioactive fallout.
