US Targeted Assassinations

It looks like the US just assassinated another Muslim leader:

Are targeted assassinations a good idea?

Is the "war on terror" itself (or whatever we're calling it now) a good idea?

We may consider things like this to be "preemptive war", but the rest of the world may consider it to be murder.

And isn't "preemptive war" one of the crimes for which the Nazis were tried and hanged at Nuremberg?
