Smallpox: Forgotten But Not Gone

Vials of smallpox have been discovered in an old storage room near the nation's capitol:

It seems to me that the medical / medical research communities have been pretty sloppy when it comes to dangerous organisms. Here is another recent example:

Hopefully, there aren't other vials of dangerous crap floating around out there for our "enemies" to find.

This reminds me of a well-known government lab in which I once worked. Back in the 90s they had a "cleanup day" where everyone brought out the stuff from way deep in their cabinets and the nooks and crannies of their storage closets. Most of the junk was not labeled, and some of it burst into flames and/or exploded when the containers were opened. Labs can be very dangerous places, especially older labs.
